Tim Lawler is the owner and operator of Polished Edge. His love for knives started at a young age using edged tools during fishing and camping adventures. Tim’s grandfather gave him his first pocket knife and his passion for repairing and sharpening knives, was sparked when the pocket knife had a broken tip. Tim gave the knife back to his grandfather and watched him reshape the knife on the stones. The knife was as good as new. In Tim’s young eyes, it was magic.
This love grew and Tim became passionate for learning new sharpening techniques. While in the United States Marine Corps and as a Police Office for the City of Long Beach he spent years training in Sayoc Kali, learning various knife skills.
After adopting his two children from the foster care program, Tim became a stay at home dad to provide the needed time and attention to his young children and their success. During this time, Tim studied and practiced using cutlery in the culinary arts and learning the unique cuts and sharpening techniques for Western and Japanese kitchen cutlery.
In 2016, Tim was personally trained by world renown Master Smith, Murray Carter whom is recognized as a Master Smith with the American Bladesmith Society as well as holding the distinction of being a 17th generation Yoshimoto Bladesmith in Japan. During this training, Tim was instructed in advanced techniques for sharpening many types of cutlery, including working with some of the finest hand forged Japanese cutlery in the world.
It is Tim's desire to bring his craftsmanship to your knife and cutlery needs, for you to experience the edge, and achieve greater safety and enjoyment during your cutting task.
